Great point. I too have found the beauty in audiobooks (where before I thought it odd and “beneath” proper reading of a text).

What changed my mind? The fact that I was thrown from a public trans city to a car-centric one meant I didn’t want to waste so much time not reading and I picked up the habit.

Thing is that I have learned that I can only listen to an audiobook not when I’m doing nothing but when I’m doing something that doesn’t require full faculties. So driving in the city I don’t listen, but on a highway it’s perfect. The same goes for the mundane chores like doing dishes.

I also found that the ancient writings are perfect for this (think Iliad) in that they were meant to be oral, right? So give those a try.

And as a writer I’ve been taken by how many other readers (listeners?) I’ve been able to reach and how many people love the works I’ve managed to put out there (quick crass pointing to “Satan’s Plea”, a short one worth a listen).
