Therein lies the rub, right? This comment needs the context of America to make sense. I too agree that teens with undeveloped brains should be treated lightly. But, teens of a certain color (aka dark ones) will be rarely if ever be afforded that right (see all the ones shot for minor things) or even how Trump called for the deaths of the Central Park 5 (found innocent after false confessions where pried out of them). Or children trying to flee wartime conditions and cross a border and being seen as an invasion.

So what we get is mass incarceration for some teens (with or without guilt being proven properly) while other teens (usually white and definitely rich ones) are given free passes because they’re “just kids”. Fighting for this distinction for the kids who are given that distinction, then is like Chris Rock said: “Rooting for Steve Jobs to win the lottery”. Nothing morally heinous compared to other stances, but not exactly where decent humans should be spending their energy.

Edit: (note, this is directed at the whole host of people ITT who are extremists in terms of “both sides do it”-ism.
