Well said. I too, as I get older, realize how much society speaks through me. That is true even if I always considered myself a rebel. As a writer I found that that which I liked (usually dead white men, though to look at the publishing world it’s also living ones) was also something’s dictated to me.
Take Shakespeare, for example. Out here we consider Hamlet as a completely universal story. Yet this story speaks of how even this story might not make sense to people from a different culture.
