Yeah, it’s become something of a disease on the right where they build a strawman (windmill, whatever metaphor you prefer) then rail against it until a large section of the population actually believes it (surprised there aren’t more right wing trolls here, though I have blocked many of them lol).
Obama’s nickname form the left of “deporter in chief” was earned and, IMO, was a large strike against him. Note that, again, we’re talking about open borders for poor people, usually fleeing our policies (direct or indirectly as in Climate Change).
Note also we’re talking about an evil (yes there is no other word for it) section of our country that is okay with protesting children arriving alone, fleeing war torn countries were protested en masse by this crazy-evil right wing section of our country. And when I say they would kill Jesus if he arrived today, I say that as a fact:
Let’s also understand that there is large bipartisan support for open borders for:
Finance
Billionaires
Destabilization (other governments, of course)
Foreign policy meant to subjugate (and which creates refugees)
Bombs (our bombs and our allies’ bombs only)
Murder (assassination of “terrorists”, especially indigenous people at the forefront of fighting against ecocide)
Does our IOTUS (Idiot of the US) sometimes break through this in terms of tariffs etc? Sure, but given his (and his followers, despite what they may try to present us) affinity for oligarchs we know why he follows these rules.
I think what the article is missing is the fact that “the wall” is a stand-in for both white supremacy in terms of its paranoid evil fantasies (see the above note on protesting brown children fleeing a war zone) of being invaded by a horde. But we and our foreign policies are the horde, nothing more.
As you noted the border is already being protected and illegal crossings have been coming down for a long time now. So that isn’t the actual issue. The actual issue is if we, once again, feed the paranoid fantasies of the evil white supremacists in this country and around the world (see below).
